מחולל צמיחה

An interactive experience of matter, humans, and technology

Semiconductors are delicate and sensitive materials, existing on the threshold between order and chaos, between stability and disintegration.

Paradoxically, it is the very uncertainty within their structure, their loose bonds, tendency to shift, and potential to collapse – that enables them to adapt, transform, and even heal themselves.

What is this kind of structure that manages to be both stable and fragile, sensitive and resilient?

This project explores both the physical and symbolic qualities of semiconductors, and what they might reveal to us about human nature as well.

How it works:

When a visitor activates a flashlight and shines it on the surface, the material responds to the light: its conductivity increases, triggering a real-time reaction.

This change activates a visual and sonic sequence displayed on a screen, showing the process the material undergoes  from growth, to fracture, to self-healing.

Through the simple act of illumination, a dynamic response is generated, revealing the material’s sensitivity, adaptability, and regenerative capacity.

In this way, visitors are invited into the material’s inner journey gaining insight into fragility, resilience, and the potential to heal.

This project was developed as part of the course "Material Encounters", led by Maya Ben David, in the M.Des Industrial Design Graduate Program at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design.
